Audrey Bester née Appudurai (PhD) is an Australian artist, biologist and educator currently interested in the scientific, artistic, and cultural pursuit of non-human animal experiences.

Audrey has a PhD in Biological Arts through SymbioticA and the Neuroecology Group at The University of Western Australia. Her background is primarily in the sciences, graduating with honours from UWA, Faculty of Science with a Bachelor of Science (Microbiology and Medical Genetics majors).

Audrey’s PhD research focussed on the scientific, artistic and cultural exploration of lungfishes, the closest living ancestor to all land vertebrates, and their visual perception. She simultaneously conducted scientific and artistic experiments to uncover, represent and interpret the visual experience of these animals, and discussed the general anthropocentric and discipline-specific limitations that inhibit a deeper understanding of the visual experience of non-human animals.
